Preparing Your Water Service for Winter

October 31, 2025

Re: Preparing your water service for winter.

To all Town of Woodstock Water & Sewer customers,

The winter months will soon be upon us. It is time to think about protecting your Water Service from below freezing temperatures. Check that your basement doors and windows are sealed to prevent cold air from entering. If your property is going to be vacant for the winter, you should have the water shut off at the service valve outside the building. You should have the building pipes drained and winterized to prevent freezing. Water lost due to broken pipes will be estimated and billed to the owner’s water/sewer account. In the event your pipes should freeze and break you should contact the water department as soon as possible.

If your property has a Fire Hydrant located on or near it all efforts should be made to keep the hydrant cleared of snow and any other restrictions to ensure it is accessible in case of an emergency.

Any questions can be directed to the Town of Woodstock Water & Sewer Department.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Notes regarding Water Reports
  1. The Annual Water Quality Report (AWQR) is usually done in March and is for the previous year.
  2. Our Water and Sewer Department receives testing instructions from the Department of Health (DOH). These instructions often come from the Ulster County DOH, but most instructions, including instructions from Ulster County, originate from the New York State DOH.
  3. The 4Q24, 1Q25, 2Q25, and 3Q25 quarterly reports were done as instructed by the DOH. As of 1/16/26, our Water and Sewer Department has not yet received instructions for 2026 testing needed in addition to the AWQR.

Proposed 2025 Water District Expansion Notes

In 2025, there were Town Board discussions about expanding the Woodstock Water District. The current Woodstock Water District, last updated in 2014, is documented in this map:

Properties considered in 2025 to be added to the Woodstock Water District include three on Yerry Hill Road, two at the Bearsville Center, one at the end of Neher Street, and are listed in this document:

This document from Dennis Larios includes the list of expansions to the District over the years on page three, and a map on page eight.

Also note that in 2025 Supervisor McKenna had in his office a larger scaled map clearly shows the exiting District line, what has been added since 1957 and the six out of district properties. Presumably that map is still in the Woodstock Supervisor's Cottage.

NOTE: Woodstock has no lead service lines. All of our service lines are copper and have been that way since the inception of the water district.
