Districts: Fire, Library, School

The Woodstock Fire and Library districts are each a New York State district separate from the Town of Woodstock, although the Town of Woodstock and these districts work in close cooperation with one another.

Each of these districts has their own budget, and their own elections where people in their district, that is, the people of Woodstock, vote regarding their budgets and their leaders: Commissioners for the Fire District and Library Board members for the Library.

While the Town of Woodstock does not control these budgets, on behalf of these districts, the Town of Woodstock collects taxes to cover the budgets approved by the people of Woodstock who voted in the Fire and Library District elections, transferring the taxes received on behalf of these districts to these districts. For Fire and Library District budget information, see the Financial Budget section of this website at: https://woodstockny.gov/financial/budgets

There are also School districts. Three school districts cover the Town of Woodstock. Each is a New York State district separate from the Town of Woodstock. The Kingston School District includes part of the southeastern portion of Woodstock, the Saugerties School District includes part of the northeastern part of Woodstock, and the Onteora School District covers the remainder, which is the majority, of Woodstock. Each school district handles its own elections for budget and School Board members, and each has its own procedures to collect taxes. The Town of Woodstock is not involved procedurally or financially with the school boards, however at times a school representative may present at a Town of Woodstock Town Board meeting or may share financial information. When provided, those items may be posted on this website.
